Council on Aging Meeting Minutes 12/9/15
                                Monterey Council on Aging
                                  Minutes of December 9, 2015
The meeting was opened at 10 am.  Present were N. Champigney,  R. Champigney, K. Purcell, J. Rodriguez.  L. Hebert was excused.  Francine Eget was also present and Don Clawson, briefly.
Minutes were read and approved.
Budget  - Formula Grant contract is awaiting Elder Affairs signature.     $25. was requested to pay for 50 cards of Frank Damato’s Monterey winter scenes.  A File of Life fits in a card; they’ll be addressed after today’s meeting.
It was noted that several seniors have moved from town.  Some reasons are the house is too big to care for, to be near children.  Resources mentioned were SBETC for shopping, etc. and food delivery services. Don Clawson gave information on a tax abatement.  If a veteran is over 65 and has a DD214 form there is a $250. abatement on real estate taxes.
Card Games - Starting Tuesday, 1-12-16 from 1 to 3 pm weekly card games will be held at town hall.  So far bridge and pitch are planned. Pat Solomon (JR) has a group for bridge. There is interest in additional games, i.e. mahjong, chess. N. Champigney will post notes requesting donations of card tables.        Francine Eget proposed a trip to Proctor Theater to see “The Lion King” in mid April. She will research availability, cost and transportation.   Other trips were discussed. There’s interest in Hyde Park and Hillstead Museum.
J. Rodriguez reported an inquiry about emergency preparedness.  That had also been mentioned at a recent selectmen’s meeting.  The council agreed that more information about town’s system would be beneficial.  JR will check with Chief Backhaus and KP will call Chief Tryon  to find out if they are available for our next meeting on January 13th.
Meeting adjourned at 11:20 am.
Following the meeting winter greeting cards were prepared containing File of Life forms.
